Rob Font bio
Personal background
Rob Font is an American bantamweight and one of the most polished boxers the UFC's 135-pound division has produced, owner of a 22–10 professional record. Born on June 25, 1987, Font is a New England native of Puerto Rican heritage who came up working ordinary jobs before fighting paid the bills. He is a cornerstone of the New England Cartel, the team he helped build alongside fellow UFC standout Calvin Kattar under head coach Tyson Chartier, training out of the Boston area. Standing 5'8" with a 71-inch reach, Font is a tall, rangy bantamweight whose jab-led boxing, footwork and high-volume output form the backbone of his game.
Path to the UFC
Font turned professional in 2011 and sharpened his craft on the New England regional circuit, fighting frequently for Classic Entertainment and Sports (CES). He absorbed an early decision loss to Des Green in 2012, then reeled off a long winning run that earned him a UFC contract. He made the most of his debut opportunity, knocking out veteran George Roop in the first round at UFC 175 in 2014 to immediately establish himself as a finisher.
Building a contender's resume
Font stopped Joey Gomez by TKO in early 2016 before a competitive decision loss to power-puncher John Lineker later that year. He bounced back to knock out Matt Schnell with a knee and punches and submitted the highly regarded Douglas Silva de Andrade in 2017. After a submission loss to Pedro Munhoz, Font produced a signature performance, a second-round TKO of the highly touted Thomas Almeida in 2018. A decision loss to veteran Raphael Assunção followed, but Font answered with decision wins over Sergio Pettis and Ricky Simón.
Title contention and a tough stretch
Font's best run came at the turn of the decade. He blitzed former title challenger Marlon Moraes with a first-round TKO in December 2020, then delivered the finest performance of his career in May 2021, dominating former champion Cody Garbrandt over five rounds to push toward a title shot. The next phase was unforgiving: he dropped five-round decisions to all-time great José Aldo in 2021 and to Marlon Vera in 2022. Font rebounded with a first-round TKO of Adrian Yanez in 2023 before decision losses to Cory Sandhagen and Deiveson Figueiredo. He showed his resilience again with wins over Kyler Phillips in 2024 and the unbeaten Jean Matsumoto in 2025, before recent decision losses to David Martinez and rising prospect Raul Rosas Jr.
Fighting style
Font is, first and foremost, a boxer. Nine of his 22 wins have come by knockout and four by submission, but it is his crisp, snapping jab and combination punching from range that define him — few bantamweights string together volume as cleanly. His footwork lets him control distance and pile up output over five rounds. The honest knock is durability and grappling against elite competition: every one of his 10 losses has come by decision or submission, with the higher-tier wrestlers and pressure fighters of the division giving him the most trouble over championship distance.
Career highlights
- Dominant win over Cody Garbrandt — outclassed the former champion across five rounds at UFC Vegas 27 in 2021, the signature victory of his career and a statement that he belonged in the title mix.
- First-round TKO of Marlon Moraes — stopped the former title challenger in December 2020 to cap a four-fight run that lifted him toward the top of the bantamweight rankings.
- Knockout artist with a perfect debut — opened his UFC career with a first-round KO of George Roop at UFC 175 and never stopped showcasing the striking that produced nine KO wins.
